Name the new ModNation Racers Vita game

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
Sony's launched a public request to name the upcoming PlayStation Vita version of ModNation Racersin a recent US PlayStation Blog post. Our first inclination was to suggest "The PlayStation Vita Version of ModNation Racers" in the allotted comments section, but the name lacked a certain pizazzwe were hoping for. After thinking awhile longer, we figured out an absolutely perfect one: "ModNation Racers: Vita!" Take that, professional marketing guys!

Madden NFL 12, Need for Speed: Shift PSP bundle announced

We can't imagine anybody in the market for a PSP hasn't already gotten one (or isn't just waiting for the PlayStation Vita) but regardless of our collective apathy, EA and Sony have teamed up on a new bundle. As you may have gathered from the headline to this very post, the bundle comes with a copy of Madden NFL 12and Need for Speed: Shift. It also throws in the requisite black PSP-3000 and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, all for $159.99.Sony will release the bundle on August 30, the same day that Maddenwill be released on basically every platform in existence including the PSP.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is Dark, Violent, Intriguing

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
It may not be coming to the U.S., but the next Final Fantasy's Japanese demo shows real promise.
Originally announced as Final Fantasy Agito XIIIin 2006, Final Fantasy Type-0 has since transformed from a cell phone game to a full-fledged Sony PSP title spread across two UMDs. This week, Square Enix released a free demo of the Japanese version of the game via PlayStation Network and its official Final Fantasy Type-0 website. We braved the hazards of Japan's PSN and downloaded the demo for a test drive, even though Square hasn't announced a U.S. release for the game. Type-0 takes place within the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe of the Final Fantasy series, which it shares with Versus XIII.

PlayStation Vita gets social with Facebook, Twitter, Skype, and Foursquare apps

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
During its GamesCom press conference, Sony revealed a suite of social media stuff that will be downloadable for the PlayStation Vita, joining the Vita-exclusive apps like Near and Party. If you want to let people know what's going on in your life (like, say, "I just played a Vita game" or "I'm about to play a Vita game") you'll be able to do so in Foursquare, Skype, Twitter, or Facebook. Skype was previously hinted at in a Brazilian Sony presentation. All four apps will be available for free download from the PlayStation Store. The announcement didn't make it clear as to whether any of them would be available at launch, but we're guessing no -- if the apps were ready at launch, they'd probably be pre-loaded on the device.

New ?99 PSP model loses WiFI, debuts this Fall in Europe [update: more details]

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
Speaking at Sony's Gamescom press conference, new SCEE president Jim Ryan revealed that a new model of the PSP will debut in Europe later this year. This new PSP variant will sport a refined design, though it will not include WiFi. The kicker, however, is the price: a mere ?99.00. The new model is expected to launch this fall in Europe. No mention was made of a launch in other territories, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear something!Update: PlayStation Blog Europe has posted a few more details about the device. The new PSP will be dubbed the E-1000 and will feature the same matte finish as the PlayStation 3 slim console. As the handheld will lack WiFi, the only way to connect to the PlayStation Store will be via Sony's Media Go software.

PlayStation Vita specs revealed

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
The technical specs of Sony?s PlayStation Vita handheld device have been revealed and it looks to be a beefy little monster. Sporting a a quad core processor, a five inch OLED front touch screen and rear touch pad, 512MB -*despite rumors of that number being cut in half ? of RAM,*front and rear facing cameras, and six-axis motion sensing, it?s going to be like carrying around a full fledged console system. My only problem lies with the cameras. In this world of 12 megapixel cameras sold to pre-schoolers, why go with VGA as the highest resolution? While most will be playing games and not shooting pictures, with the intended social apps, being able to share pictures through the Vita would be a good selling point to the middle of the road gamer. Maybe I?m just being picky.

Escape Plan preview: More than a touch of disappointment

Can I tell you how excited I was to check out Escape Plan? 'Cause I was, like, really excited. It had potential game of the show written all over it, with its black-and-white aesthetic, quirky main characters, and bold showcasing of the PlayStation Vita's many control inputs. And after sitting through a presentation at Gamescom, I was promised hands-on the next day. Ooh, goody! My excitement, however, was immediately rattled after putting just one finger on the game. I was trying to wake up Lil, the thinner of the game's main two characters and introductory plaything, but pushing on the screen to wake her initially didn't do much. After mashing my finger repeatedly against the Vita's touchscreen, Lil finally woke up. Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of my problems.

The team behind 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors is reuniting for another "extreme escape" game. Andriasang reports, via information in Famitsu, that the new game for Vita and 3DS will be called Gyokugen Dasshutsu Adv: Zennin Shiboudesin Japanese -- Gyokugen Dasshutsu translates to "Extreme Escape." 999was called Gyokugen Dasshutsu: Ku Jikan, Ku Nin, Kyu no Tobirain Japan, meaning the game may not be a direct sequel, but could take place in the 999universe.The new game will recruit 999's director and character designer to take on another sinister scenario. Team Ninja will consider Vita game following Ninja Gaiden 3

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
A Ninja Gaiden game for PlayStation Vita remains an immaterial idea while Team Ninja gets Ninja Gaiden 3 ready for its 2012 launch. The developer has received a PlayStation Vita system to test and eventually chop in half mid-air, in an incredibly expensive variant of Fruit Ninja, but hasn't progressed beyond the consideration phase."We've received a PlayStation Vita system and are thinking about it," said team lead Yosuke Hayashi in a recent PlayStation Q&A. "Having said that, right now we're focused on Ninja Gaiden 3 for PS3, and after that's complete we'll start to look at ideas such as bringing out Ninja Gaiden on PS Vita because of course we'd like to expand the series."

Fun Bits explains Escape Plan controls and the vocabulary of Vita

Sony's NGP (PSP2), Jun 5, 2011, 5:06 AM, YourPSHome.net, 2854
You might think it's a privilege to be among the first to develop for a new platform, and you'd be right. You're getting to play with a new toy, plus there's plenty of extra publicity being a launch title. You get to play pioneer for a couple of years! But, as Escape Plan developer Fun Bits will attest, being the first on a new console also means pressure. Sure, there was the usual "How do we exploit this tech to get the best graphics?" but, on the PlayStation Vita, there's was a whole new challenge: "What are we supposed to do with all these inputs?"

Persona 2: Innocent Sin is hitting PSP September 20, but before it does, Atlus wants to show us just how hardcore the revamped game will be. The new "Negotiation and Summoning" trailer shows the rock-and-rollin' Demon Negotiation and Persona Summoning mechanics, complete with haughty taunts and epic guitar riffs. Just picture the PSP in the video riding a motorcycle over pits of fire and exploding kittens, because we assume that's the tone Atlus is going for here.

Rumor: Super Monkey Ball coming to PS Vita

Sega of America's Flickr stream teased three images for Super Monkey Ball labeled for PS Vita earlier today. Sega has yet to officially announce Super Monkey Ballfor Vita, and it has since removed the images. We assume an eager employee accidentally posted them, or someone was monkeying around the Sega offices.Sorry. We had to. To apologize, below are the three images, which look extremely similar to previous versions of Super Monkey Ball.

First off, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan?s Hiroshi Kawano takes the stage and after a brief introduction, a*release date for the PS Vita is announced. At*29,980 JPY (Yen) and 24,980 JPY, 3G and WiFi models respectively,*Sony?s next-gen portable will launch on December 17th in Japan; clever move to let it out there just in time for the holidays. That doesn?t change the expected, and hopeful, Q1 2012 launch for the rest of the world, however. In addition to this, Sony announced a launch line-up of 26 titles, which will all be joined by an additional 74 eventually, bringing it to a total of 100 titles to be released within the Vita?s ?launch window.?
