OMG! After reading the last couple pages of this thread my concern level has reached...........nauseous. This is BAD news----I'm no "I told you so" person, but I KNEW that there was a risk of this happening someday with the way Sony handles server issues (all issues for that matter). Then they wait a week to mention this?? You got to be kidding me!!!!! I dont even want to know what people are going to find when they get back on PSN. What a complete disaster. A friend of mine in England has her CC info on my EU account for when I add $$ there occasionally--makes my stomach turn thinking about her being drawn into this...nevermind my own info on my NA acct. I have a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach right now and am really, really going to hope for the best.

Just got that e-mail from SONY. But I already reported my credit card lost. So no damage done to me. To be honest without the cc security code there was little they could do with this information anyway. As far as being nauseous have no fear underdog is here lol. Come on Hopper don't read to much into this. If you had a cc on your account do what I did and breathe free....

Darn it... I told Sony to hire Professor to run their network instead of Gilligan. But do they listen to me?!?

    NOOOOOOO.

Say Hopper and everyone else, I think it would be best to call your credit card companies and ask them for a new card number, also change all your passwords and security questions on every site you visit. I am a bit upset that they took so long to tell us this. Good luck to everyone

That's not necessary, the chances are real remote they can track an individual's internet pattern. Good luck finding my banking or credit card information or anything else. My personal information was compromised several times in the last 10 years. I worked for the NYPD and Homeland Security and those idiots lost hard drives several times. They paid for credit monitoring for about 5 years total.

Think of the amount of information these hackers have to go through before they get to you. Trust me on this these people will be caught. Hopefully this information will be recovered. A tip for all facebook, twitter etc users. Do not use the same password for all those sites. Someone has that one password then they have you...

    Clarifying a Few PSN Points

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a point and answer one of the most frequently asked questions today.
There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.
For those who were looking there’s also an FAQ with some more frequently asked questions
Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Ok, maybe "nauseous" was a bit much, but knowing what kind of hell a person goes through when they are a victim of identity theft was my first thought. My initial and main concern is for my friend in England, because we just talked about leaving her info on that account recently and decided it was easier than having to get it all each time I wanted to add money in EU. I just hope that decision doesnt come back to haunt us. Just hoping this whole thing passes soon.

Ans so...our worst fears come true. Too bad Sony didn't feel this might be worth a least telling us there was a slim chance that personal financial information MIGHT have been compromised. Excuse me (and a million other people) if their assurances that the security numbers and exp. dates for credit cards were not compromised falls on deaf ears. They have totally mishandled this situation from the start. The complete lack of respect they have shown for their customers by not communicating frequently and fully is astounding. While I love Sony Playstation Network and Home, the protestations that 'because it is a "free" service we should cut Sony some slack' are beginning to sound lame. Sony makes Billions of dollars (yes Billions) off the gamer community and it has acted carelessly and recklessly in the way it has stored our person and financial information. While I hold the hacker(s) responsible for this act of theft, I also at the same time feel that Sony has a measure of blame as well. Will this cause me to not go on Home? No. PSN? No. Will this cause me to remove my credit card info from PSN? DAMN RIGHT.

Hopper Since she is kind enough of allowing you to use her CC. Then contact her and tell her to report it lost. Like I said before without the CC security code they can't do anything with that CC number...

As I said before I've been through this several times already. The chances are near slim they'll get to her or you. Since this is a international problem now there is no where to hide. Except Russia, China oh never mind that lol.

Gotz a feeling the Russian mob may be in this or some moron kid just trying to jailbreak the network. We'll find out soon enough ...

Sony's error has now hit the bigtime. It's a front page story you see on the cbs and nbc network news websites. So the news is going beyond the niche of gamers into the general public.

So not only gamers but the general public now are being exposed to Sony's faux pas. A much bigger black eye for Sony. Bigger PR hit.

But hopefully more incentive for Sony to give us a good solid network after this.
