Hey guys, I was thinking...I've seen Macross Frontier a million times. And alot of you guys need to suffer through it when you can't understand a word of it.

I'm sure you can understand some part of it, especially the battles. but if you have any questions about the story, please feel free to ask.

    XD

Part of it is tradition for a Macross series. IN the original series, an alien fleet destroyed most of the earth. The only thing that prevented mankind's extinction was the singing of one girl. The aliens were all soldiers, a race of clones, bred for nothing but battles. Their creators long extinct. They had no knowledge of anything but fighting till they died. But hearing singing for the first time touched their hearts. And seeing how we live gave them hope to live in a way besides war. So basically a song saved mankind in the original Macross series.

And all the Macross sequels have been an unusual mix of singers and songs and soldiers and battles.

In the first few episodes of Frontier, it's pretty much a coincidence that Sheryl Nome is singing while the Fleet encounters the Vajra (those big bugs).

although...and this is a BIG HUGE spoiler: (highlite with mouse to see it)

[HIDE]All the Vajra thoughts are all inter-connected (like Star Trek Borg).
Also both the female singers are survivors of a colony destroyed by Vajra. And they are infected by microscopic Vajra. And when the girls sing, it resonates inside the Vajra's thoughts. And they home in on it like bees to honey
    .[/HIDE]

*sorry, couldn't get the HIDE command to hide it.... DOH......

**OH! It is working! I just can't see the HIDE icon cause I'm the author!

I was listening to the Robotech soundtrack just yesterday. The music (American) was actually quite cool in it's time. And to a certain extent still is. One thing this hearing did to me was to bring back quite a stack of memories!
I recalled the Veritechs in battle, the SDF-1, Rick Hunter, Commander Henry Gloval, the (annoying) Lynn Minmei and Super Nasty Khyron.
I remember having a keen eye on Lisa Hayes! Haha!
That was 25 years ago! Phew!
    Time flies!

    You're welcome!

Macross Frontier is a very good sequel. Much better than some of the other ones. It's a complete package. Not that its not flawless. Or perfect. But it has story, and action, and visually looks good. Lots of top notch design work with the spacecraft and backgrounds.

some more basic info about the show:

After Earth was nearly destroyed by aliens attacks, we began huge colonies to spread mankind into the galaxy. Macross Frontier is the 25th Large Scale Emigration Convoy. It moves by folding space to jump huge distances. But it takes a few weeks to build up energy for a jump.

Sheryl Nome is the big-name singer that comes to perform at Macross Frontier. The earrings she has are precious heirlooms from her deceased family, killed by Vajra. She looses one earing in the performance when the boy in a glider suit(Alto) is carrying her. She INSISTS he help her find it.

Alto Sasome, the boy with a ponytail. His family is from a long line of kabuki (japanese theater) actors. His father groomed him to succeed him. He once had to play a girl in a play. And people still tease him by calling him "Hime" (princess). He ran away from Home and currently dreams of being a pilot. He takes flight classes at the local academy.

Ranka Lee, the green haired girl dreams of being a singer like Sheryl. She's also one of the only survivors of a Vajra attack on another colony (that was destroyed). All her family was killed. She suffers disassociative amnesia from the trauma.

The pilot with the plane that has yellow trim is Ozma Lee. He is the leader of Skull Squadron, a group of pilots working for the SMS (basically mercenaries). He's also the guardian to Ranka. Ten years (or so) ago, he failed to save her family. So he takes care of her now. She calls him "big brother".(Oneesan in japanese)

    episode 3

You're welcome!!! Glad to help people enjoy Macross F!

Here are the scripts for the episodes in the theater

    Code:
    Macross Frontier ep 3

    NARRATOR: The Galactic Seeding Plan.
A space emigration project chosen by Humanity after coming face to face with extinction.
From ultra large-scale convoys to small private vessels,
a great many ships were journeying through space in search of new worlds.
It was a grand age of galactic exploration, made possible by the trans-spatial travel method known as "folding".
ALTO: Put me in a valkyrie!
    OZMA: You little!
Don't spout off on the spur of the moment!
               Damn punk!
    SHERYL: I've found you,
               Saotome Alto!

               {opening credits}

    OZMA: No you don't!
               Delta-1,
I've restrained a Vajra at point-blank distance to the ship.
               Requesting back-up fire!
    KANARIA: This is Kanaria.
               I can go anytime.
               Request launch authorizaton.
    CAPTAIN WILDER: Monica-kun?
LT MONICA L.: There seems to be confusion.
Still no launch authorization from the President's office.
    OZMA: Dammit.
               Incompetent politicians!
    MIKHAIL: Commander!
    LUCA: Commander!
    OZMA: Mikhail! Luca!
I can only hold this thing for so long.
Can you two take care of it?
    LUCA: Yes, sir!
This is crazy, a shot like this...
    MIKHAIL: I'll do it!
    ALTO: Michael?
    MIKHAIL: Him?!
    ALTO: He hit the thing.
    OZMA: Good job, Mikhail.
MIKHAIL: I merely did what was necessary, Squad Leader.
OZMA: I'll buy you a drink later.
               What?!
               Squad Leader!
SHERYL: Stop this! You've gotta be kidd-
    ALTO: Sheryl, this way!
OZMA: Mikhail, Luca, we're following the Vajra!
ALARM: Announcement from the Frontier Government.
Evacuation alarm has been issued on all vessels.
All citizens, please retreat to shelters quickly.
    MISC GUY: Again?
    MISC GIRL: What's going on?
SHERYL: What the heck was that?
ALTO: How am I supposed to know?
               Dammit.
Got saved by him again ...
               Let go.
               Hey!
    RANKA: S-Sorry!
               Huh?
               No way...
               Oh gosh.
               How come...
               {huh}
               Huh?
    ALTO: Hurry up and...
    RANKA: Okay...
               See?
               It's okay.
SHERYL: Can't you even say, "I'll protect you," to a scared little girl or two?
    ALTO: Stuff it!
If the situation let me, I'd say it all you want!
               But right now, I...
SHERYL: Let's just get out of here.
It seems that'd be better for both of us, mentally.
    ALTO: Can't.
               This is an emergency foxhole.
It's not connected to the dome interior.
    SHERYL: Wait...
You mean we're stuck in here?!
    RANKA: What?!
LUCA: Squad Leader, there are some military craft.
    MIKHAIL: They're late.
               As always.
SHERYL: Geez, it sure is hot.
               What the hell, geez!
    RANKA: Sheryl-san!
SHERYL: You just saw mine in person!
               Consider that a bargain.
    ALTO: Bullshit!
You show most of it on stage anyway!
SHERYL: That's different from my private life!
Don't look at me with those lecherous eyes, you pervert!
ALTO: Who are you calling a pervert?!
    SHERYL: You!
               You horny kid!
    ALTO: Shut up, you exhibitionist!
SHERYL: What did you just say?!
    RANKA: I-Is anyone hungry?
I just happen to have some really delicious dim sum.
               Niang Niang's famous...
               Tuna bun!
A-After all, they say armies can't wage war on an empty stomach...
And since we're stuck inside, well, maybe a tuna bun... or...
    SHERYL: You really are cute.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: I thought I asked you to always send
a security officer along whenever she goes out.
GRACE: Since she always returns in time for work, I thought...
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: It's urgent; I need you to isolate her current location.
SOLDIER: But the operators seem to have their hands full.
GRACE: Um, if it's all right, would you mind authorizing me on the shipboard network?
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: What?
               An implant?
GRACE: Could they be illegal on Frontier?
But they're quite convenient, you know.
               In all sorts of ways.
    ALTO: It's no good.
No matter how much I try, it's not being restored.
SHERYL: It's hard to sit calmly when your fate is in the hands of others.
RANKA: I wonder if the SMS people are all right.
ALTO: You know one of them?
    RANKA: Yeah.
My big brother works in their offices,
and I go there often to bring snacks.
    ALTO: SMS, huh?
SHERYL: Hey, isn't it getting kinda stuffy?
ALTO: Enough with the sarcasm already!
    SHERYL: No, really.
It really feels hard to breathe...
ALTO: Damn, the circulation system is down.
At this rate, we won't last another fifteen minutes!
    SHERYL: Come on.
               Do something, will you?!
ALTO: Easy for you to say!
If I could, I would have done something long ago!
    RANKA: But...
SHERYL: You've got to be kidding.
    ALTO: Stupid, don't!
               It's a vacuum out there!
SHERYL: So I should give up and wait until we suffocate instead?!
               No thank you.
               I won't give up!
               Everyone says I'm lucky.
But I think I've worked hard enough to match that.
That's why I can keep being Sheryl Nome.
That's how you take fate into your own hands.
    GRACE: Precisely.
    OZMA: All clear...
    LUCA: Yes, sir.
This time, it seems there weren't any which retreated by fold.
OZMA: Guess I bled too much...
               All units, return to... base...
    LUCA: Squad Leader?
               Squad Leader, please respond!
               Squad Leader!!!
    SHERYL: Listen close,
you'd better forget what you saw earlier.
If you happen to leak that visual data on the net,
I'll wipe you out, socially and biologically.
Oh but, as an ordinary memory,
I'll allow you to use it just for tonight.
Silly, do you really think I'd allow that?
    ALTO: What the...
    SHERYL: Hey, Ranka-chan.
    RANKA: Ah, yes?
    SHERYL: Do you like singing?
    RANKA: Yes!
SHERYL: Then be true to yourself.
Opportunities are always right in front of you.
I almost never give anyone a treat like this.
    ALTO: Quite a leisurely rescue.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: On that matter, I apologize.
If we'd known the circulation system was down, we would-
    ALTO: Never mind the excuses.
               Answer your phone already.
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Yes?
               I am finished here.
               What?
Lt. Cdr. Ozma Lee was injured?
    RANKA: What?!
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Ozma...
    RANKA: Brother...
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: You... Are you...
    RANKA: Brother!
               Brother!
               Why are you hurt?!
               You said you quit piloting!
You said you'd never leave me alone...
...that you wouldn't do anything dangerous!
    ALTO: Ranka...
    RANKA: You can't die...
               You can't, Brother...
               Why?
Why would you do such a thing?!
I haven't told anyone that secret!
               So... no...
               NO!!!
    ALTO: Hey!

    OZMA: I see.
And I've been hiding my work so that this wouldn't happen...
    LUCA: Squad Leader...
    ALTO: What's wrong with her?
OZMA: Ranka reacts abnormally to the death or injury of those close to her.
    KANARIA: Dissociative amnesia.
               In short, compartmentalized memory loss.
Due to post-traumatic stress disorder or other condition,
recollection of a specific experience becomes impossible.
But factors which can cause that experience to resurface will generate intense suffering and fear.
OZMA: Basically, it's a type of memory disorder.
    KANARIA: Ranka's already recovered.
I hope you don't mind, but I sent her home.
OZMA: Sorry for always dragging you into my personal problems.
    KANARIA: Don't worry about it.
               We're a team.
ALTO: What did you mean by specific experience?
OZMA: A long time ago, Ranka lost all of her blood relatives.
               Parents, siblings, everyone.
    ALTO: But you...
OZMA: I'm not Ranka's real older brother.
               I'm just a good-for-nothing pilot...
who wasn't able to protect her family eleven years ago.
               Ranka's forgotten that.
               ...that atrocious incident.
ALTO: Then why are you even piloting?
               Because of that, she-
    OZMA: To protect her.
    ALTO: Protect her?
And because of it, hiding every detail from her?
Is that what you call protecting?!
OZMA: Then what the hell should I do?!
               Huh?!
Tell her "your family was torn to shreds by Vajra and died"?
"And because of that, you have mental scars"?!
Is that what I should say?!
    LUCA: Squad Leader, your wounds...
    KANARIA: Mikhail, nurse call.
    MIKHAIL: Understood.
    KANARIA: Luca, watch that monitor.
               Okay.
ALTO: If it was me, I'd want to know everything.
I wouldn't be able to take leaving my fate up to others!
               Tell me,
               what are they...
What the hell are those Vajra?!
OZMA: Once you know, there's no going back.
    ALTO: I don't care.
OZMA: I'll give you twenty-four hours.
               Think it over again carefully.
About what you want to do.
What you want to fight for and what you're willing to risk.
LUCA: I'm sorry for not telling you all this time, Alto-senpai.
We're supposed to keep our SMS affiliation secret for security reasons.
But now we can fly together in the unit, too, not just in school.
ALTO: If that happens, then you'd be the senpai...
    LUCA: Oh please, stop such-
    MIKHAIL: Yeah, stop this.
Alto, are you going to run away again?
    ALTO: Run away?
               Not me!
    MIKHAIL: Don't misjudge yourself.
So far, I've been flying with you for more than a year.
               The way you're going,
               you'll eventually die,
               or kill someone else.
I don't intend to be caught in the crossfire.
I'm warning you as a friend.
    LUCA: Mikhail-senpai...
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: These are the reports concerning those who came in contact.
    VP LEON MASHIMA: This girl...
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Is something wrong, Leon?
I mean, Chief of Staff Mishima.
VP LEON MASHIMA: Leon is fine.
On-duty hours ended thirty seconds ago.
               It's private time now.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: We can't, Leon.
               If my father were to...
VP LEON MASHIMA: His Excellency has already retired for the evening.
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: But-
               Leon!
    BIMBO: Wow, this is gorgeous!
LIAR: This stone is a precious item which is rarely seen on the market.
               For those watching tonight,
we're going to throw in the earrings with the set.
    BIMBO: What? The earrings, too?
Are you sure you can do that?
    LIAR: Of course.
    SHERYL: My earring!
LIAR: When you wear them as a set like this, they sparkle all the more brightly, don't they?
    BIMBO: They really do!
This way, they will really match any dress.
    SHERYL: Geez.
Now I have to see him again...
NEWS: A mass funeral is planned for the victims of the string of convoy attacks.
According to New Federation Military Staff Headquarters, there were twenty-eight combat related deaths.
Ahead of the funeral, President Glass promised sufficient compensation to the victims' families...
MIKHAIL: Alto, are you going to run away again?
From your dad and your home?
    ALTO: No...
               I'M NOT!
    RANKA: Aimo, aimo, nete lhushe
               Noynar milia ehndel protea
               Photow mih
    ALTO: Ranka?
    RANKA: Alto-kun!
ALTO: That was a nice song.
    RANKA: You know, I...
I don't remember anything about my childhood.
But I do remember this song.
It's my one and only memory.
    ALTO: I see.
RANKA: So sometimes I come to this hill to sing.
               Here, there's no one listening.
    ALTO: No one listening?
               Is that what you want?
    RANKA: Huh?
               Yeah.
That's how I've always felt, but...
               Isn't Sheryl-san wonderful?
               I'm envy her so much.
When we were stuck in that hole, I was terribly afraid.
I thought, "I'm just gonna die in here without anyone knowing, unable to do anything..."
After that, I started to wish I could say,
"Here I am"... to tell it to as many people as possible.
    ALTO: Impossible.
    RANKA: Huh?
               You're right.
               Someone like me...
ALTO: As long as you're still saying "wish I could" or "someone like me,"
               it'll never happen!
    RANKA: You're a tease, aren't you, Alto-kun?
ALTO: That's what they tell me.
RANKA: I want to tell it to everyone .
So will you listen to my song?
    ALTO: Do what you want.
    RANKA: Thanks, Alto-kun!
               That's right...
               I...
FUNERAL HONOR GUARD: To the Heroes,
               Salute!
CAPTAIN WILDER: He was a brave soldier.
               Unfearing, unflinching.
He staked his life, fought for that which he held dear, and exhausted his strength.
But this is not the end.
His flesh will one day become our flesh,
               become the land,
become the air and set our lives aflame.
               So for now, sleep,
               our friend.
               Farewell.
               We shall meet again.
    OZMA: Salute!
OZMA: As civilian military providers, our deaths aren't combat deaths.
               They're treated as accidental deaths.
We don't get tombstones over there either.
               We don't get convoy-wide funerals,
and even our families aren't told the details.
    ALTO: Just perfect for me.
I'll live by my own strength alone.
And I'll be alone when I die.
               That's just fine.
OZMA: Move into the barracks by 0800 tomorrow morning.
    ALTO: Yes, sir!
    OZMA: That starts tomorrow.
    LUCA: Senpai!
Oh senpai, do you know the way to the barracks?
    MIKHAIL: Geez, dumb bastard.
If that's how it is, I'm gonna run you ragged.
    RANKA: No. 114, Ranka Lee.
               Please give me a chance.
    JUDGE: Well then, Ranka-san,
can you tell me why you entered the Miss Macross Frontier contest?
SHERYL: So she decided to be true to herself.
    RANKA: Yes!

    {ending credits}

NARRATOR: Alto and Ranka have taken their first steps into new worlds.
Are the trials standing in their way simply the pain of being born?
               Next time, Miss Macross.
NARRATOR: Song of Ancient Times, echo throughout the Galaxy.

    Macross Frontier ep 4

NARRATOR: Zentraedi, the race of giants...
A warlike race ignorant of culture,
created by the Protoculture in ancient times.
In the past, the transforming fighter crafts,
               the Variable Fighter series...
...were developed in anticipation of encounters and combat with them, the giant race.
After the unfortunate meeting which pushed Humanity to the brink of extinction,
they eventually made peace with the Humans...
...and today, the races walk together as companions.
It is said the bridge between them was the song of one songstress.
    RANKA: Sorry, Nana-chan.
    NANA: What's wrong?
Your mind's been wandering all day.
RANKA: I did it! I did it!
    ALTO, NANASE: Hey-
               Ranka-san!
    NANA: What?
               You certainly did!
    RANKA: I did it!
NANA: Congratulations on passing the Miss Macross Frontier preliminary audition, Ranka-san!
MIKHAIL: Congratulations on dying for the twenty-fifth time,
               Princess Alto.

    {opening credits}

MIKHAIL: Then 25 laps around the hangar.
If you activate the x-gear's power, I'll double that.
    ALTO: I won't forget this...
               MICHAEL!
MIKHAIL: That's "Lieutenant, Sir" to you.
               Plus one more lap!
    ALTO: Dammit...
LT MONICA L.: That's the new kid, right?
    LT RAM H.: Correct.
               Currently seventeen years old.
    LT MINA R.: Oooh!
               He's like a total...
    LT BOBBY M.: Hottie!
    LUCA: You're such a scoundrel, Mikhail-senpai.
    MIKHAIL: Huh?
    LUCA: The simulator's difficulty setting.
MIKHAIL: Well, he'd pass it right away on normal.
               The setting was just right for giving his humongous ego a bloody nose.{figuratively}
               What's that giggle about?
LUCA: Oh, I was just thinking how right you are.
RANKA: Hey, listen to this, Alto-kun!
               I passed the preliminaries for Miss Macross!{no need for sign, same as voice}
I had nothing to lose, but I'm glad I entered.
It's all thanks to you, Alto-kun.
    OZMA: Useless bastard!
RANKA: So, okay, the main contest is this Sunday.
               Please, come watch.
Then I'll be able to face it.
    ALTO: Oh geez...
    MIKHAIL: Ah ha...
LUCA: How does he know Ranka-san...
MIKHAIL: Isn't it more surprising that Ranka-chan's going for Miss Macross?
LUCA: I heard that from Nanase-san.
               Oh!
But you have to keep it a secret from the Squad Leader.
    MIKHAIL: No duh!
If he were to find out-
    OZMA: What's a secret?
    MIKHAIL: N-No, Sir!
               It is nothing.
OZMA: So how's the new kid?
MIKHAIL: Yes, Sir, as you can see...
OZMA: So what do you think...
...as the ones who opposed his enlistment the most?
MIKHAIL: Well, I did say such things,
but he does have skill... this little Princess.
OZMA: Then I guess we should get to it.
Practical exam is this Sunday, 1200 hours!
    LUCA: What?
               That day is the Miss Macr-{mmph}
    OZMA: Huh?
               Maybe it's tradition or whatever,
but you really wanna see such a lowbrow event?
MIKHAIL: Oh no, not in the least!
OZMA: I can't figure what's going through the minds of the girls parading themselves at those things.
    MIKHAIL: Absolutely.
    SHOW HOST: Miss Macross Frontier!
Being held today with special guest, Sheryl Nome!
RANKA: I'm... starting to get the feeling I'm really out of place...
BIMBO: Oh, if it isn't Nanase.
Last I saw you at the Junior Cup, wasn't it?
Don't tell me you're competing today...
NANA: No, I'm accompanying my friend.
    BIMBO: Good luck.
    NANA: It's all right!
               Size isn't what matters!
               Because you're cute!
               Okay, give it your best!
BITCH1: If you're not using it, would you move, please?
    RANKA: I'm sorry.
    BITCH1: I've got a zit!
BITCH2: You're standing in my way!
    RANKA: Yes, ma'am!
MIKHAIL: Want me to call Captain Bobby?
ALTO: You tell that freak bastard,
if he tries that again, he's not getting away alive!
MIKHAIL: Getting screwed with is part of a new guy's job.
So? Making yourself pretty for a date?
ALTO: No, I have a promise to keep...
               ...out of obligation.
You could even call it a duty.
MIKHAIL: Well, go have a good time,
               Princess.
    OZMA: Ozma Lee entering.
CAPTAIN WILDER: How's he turning out?
    OZMA: Fifty on our guys. {Dei- come back}
CAPTAIN WILDER: I'll take that bet.
CONTEST STAFF: As enchanting as ever!
I should expect nothing less from
               the 8th Miss Macross runner-up, Miss Catherine.{runner up in 8th pageant}
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: That was a long time ago.
I know I am still young, but I hope to fill my father's panel seat satisfactorily.
VP LEON M.: Please forgive my tardiness.
               Are we the last ones?
    CONTEST STAFF: One more,
               Mr. Saotome still has not...
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Saotome?
RANKA: There really is no hope...
               ...for me, anyway.
    RANKA'S PHONE: Got mail!
               Got mail!
               Got mail!
               Got-
SHERYL: Oh my, lost your way?
    RANKA: No!
               I-
    SHERYL: Then hurry on.
This is the gateway to your dreams.
But you've only just set foot on the stairway.
If you want to chase after me, don't hesitate...
               Keep coming.
    RANKA: Yes!
SHOW HOST: Now, we hereby commence the 12th annual Miss Macross Frontier pageant!
    RANKA: All right!
LUCA: I wanted to see Ranka-san's day in the spotlight in person.
    MIKHAIL: That's bull.
I know what you really want to see.
    LUCA: Huh?
    MIKHAIL: It's time.
SHOW HOST: And now, let's introduce the judges!
ALTO: Sorry, I'll be right back.
    NANA: Saotome-kun?
    OZMA: This is Ozma.
Starting now, we're going to conduct your final enlistment test.
ALTO: I have the day off-
    OZMA: It's mandatory.
You don't have the right to refuse.
STAFFER: The introductions have already begun, so please hurry, Mr. Saotome.
    ALTO: Dad...
    OZMA: What's wrong?
               Answer me!
STAFFER: An acquaintance of yours, Sir?
    ALTO'S FATHER: No.
    CREWMAN: X-gear system, contact!
CREWMAN: Practice rounds! Don't make a mistake!
CREWMAN: Skull-3 gets electronic warfare equipment.
               Long range pack for 2.
               Hurry!
    CREWMAN: Which equipment for Skull-4?
    ALTO: S-Super pack!
MIKHAIL: Cutting out in the middle of your date?
ALTO: I'm gonna get this over with and go back!
    MIKHAIL: Skull Squadron, moving out!
    ALTO: That's right.
               Get it over with quick.
               Just you watch.

LT RAM H.: Good luck, Skull-4.
    ALTO: Thank you.
SHOW HOST: Now for the fourth elimination round!
LUCA: The test consists of a simulated combat.
               Our opponent is Pixie Squadron,
made up of three Queadlunn-Rea armors.
    ALTO: Queadlunns...
LUCA: Pixie were the ones assigned to the advanced scouting mission of this space,
               so they're quite formidable.
               Right, Mikhail-senpai?
    MIKHAIL: No comment.
LUCA: Their advanced scouting confirmed that this asteroid field, M-217, was an ancient battlefield for the Zentraedi.
ALTO: I always thought the military was the one scouting the convoy's planned course.
MIKHAIL: Procedures for mobilizing the New Federation Military are a hassle,
               and the costs are high.
And yet, their morale and level of training are low.
LUCA: That's why military providers like us are in demand.
    ALTO: Capitalism at work, huh?
MIKHAIL: Seven thousand years, just floating here...
               Not even allowed to rot...
LUCA: Three heat sources in range!
               They're Queadlunns!
MIKHAIL: We're both using practice rounds.
               Don't lose your nerve, Princess!
    ALTO: Bite me!
    MIKHAIL: Break!
SHOW HOST: Continuing on, entry number 7.
               Miss Ranka Lee!
    RANKA: Um, I'm Ranka Lee.
               Please choose me.
               Ow...
    NANA: Ranka-san...
KLAN: Nene, there's one on your tail!
    ALTO: Now!
               Nene!
               Aaahh!
               Skull-4, one down!
LT BOBBY M.: He makes a pretty picture even in a battroid.
    OZMA: Damn fool...
I told him, if you shoot one down, you look for the next right away!
SHOW HOST: Miss Lee says her talent is singing!
    RANKA: Yes!
SHOW HOST: Now then, the song she will sing
is that legendary number we all know.
               All right, take it away!{dewa douzo}

               {Ranka sings "my boyfriend is a pilot"}

LT BOBBY M.: My, what rowdy combat.
CAPTAIN WILDER: Like a certain someone in his youth.
    LT MINA R.: How cute!
               So tensed up.
LT RAM H.: That goes over better in the evaluation.
LT MONICA L.: This is training, you know!
LT MINA R.: Monica's so stiff.
LT RAM H.: It's just a practice battle-
    LT MINA R.: Defold {signal }detected!
    LT MONICA L.: It's a Victor!
MIKHAIL: Why here of all places?!
    ALTO: Vaj...ra...
OZMA: You know about the wreck of the 117th large-scale survey convoy eleven years ago.
ALTO: The one where a thousand people died when they got caught in a fold fault, right?
OZMA: That's what the public was told, ya.
               But the truth is they...
               ...were annihilated by Vajra.
               Ranka...
               ...is a survivor of that.
MIKHAIL: Get your ass out of there!
               We've only loaded practice rounds!
    ALTO: You monsters...
               You monsters won't...
    MIKHAIL: Dumb bastard!
    LUCA: Alto-senpai!
    KLAN: Stand back, new kid!
We just came off a scouting mission.
               And we're carrying live rounds.
               Shallow?!
    ALTO: Move!
               Eat this!
    LUCA: Alto-senpai!
    MIKHAIL: Geez... Reckless idiot.
JUDGE1: Well, quite a cute girl, wouldn't you say?
    JUDGE2: Yes.
It was even adorable when she stumbled at the end.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: What do you think of Ranka-san?
SHERYL: It's not judgement time yet.
               I'll reserve my comments.
    VP LEON M.: Chairman.
    JUDGE3: Yes, what is it?
SHOW HOST: Continuing on, entry number 9.
               Miss Miranda Melin!
OZMA: You punk, do you understand why we've been given expensive equipment!?
    ALTO: To fight.
    OZMA: To stay alive!
You're lucky you were able to use that antique without blowing your head off.
    KLAN: Zentraedi weapons are first-rate.
No matter how many thousands of years pass, they would never have lame malfunctions!
OZMA: How's this kid look in your eyes?
    KLAN: He's stupid and reckless,
               but his sense isn't bad.
It'll depend on his education from here on.
OZMA: I appreciate your assistance, Klan Klan.
               Now then, Trainee Saotome,
I hereby inform you of the results of your final enlistment exam.
SHERYL: I will announce the results.
This year's Miss Macross Frontier is...
    AUDIENCE: Cheers!
    LUCA: Congratulations.
Now, we'll be together at school and work.
MIKHAIL: Geez, not a shred of endearing modesty.
Joining the squad like some snotty-nosed brat...
KLAN: Starting today, you're one of us.
Work your butt off, young man.
ALTO: Why is there a kid...
    KLAN: I'm not a kid!
               I am Captain Klan Klan.
    ALTO: K-Klan?!
    LUCA: When the Captain micronizes,
she becomes like that for some reason.
MIKHAIL: Her genes are awkward, right, Klan?
    KLAN: What was that?!
Just because you've grown a little taller than me,
how dare you become so arrogant!
Mikhail, today I will surely send you to your maker!
               Mikhail!
    MIKHAIL: Whoa!
    ALTO,KLAN: Halt!
               How dare you run, coward!
    RANKA: Sir,
would you like one of Niang Niang's famous tuna buns?
    ALTO: Ranka!
    GIRL: Oh, that's the girl!
               The new Miss Macross!
               That girl, see?
    ALTO: That's... too bad.
Sorry I couldn't watch 'til the end.
    RANKA: It's okay.
It was hopeless to begin with.
I mean, once I got in front of everyone, I totally panicked, so...
               I should've known I couldn't...
               M-More importantly, I was so shocked, Alto-kun.
               You enlisted in SMS...
But it's such a hard job...
               Why would you...
ALTO: I figured it was my chance.
    RANKA: Your chance?
ALTO: So, don't you give up either.
There's something you want to tell everyone, isn't there?
               Yup.
    MIKHAIL: Save me, Ranka-chan!
    KLAN: Halt, Mikhail!
    MIKHAIL: Whoa!
    KLAN: Gotcha!
ALTO: Damn those guys, making me join
               their merrymaking until morning...
What the hell you doing, bastard?!
    SHERYL: Hi.

    {ending credits}

NARRATOR: Alto gets used and abused by Sheryl.
Elsewhere, Ranka searches for Alto and the three meet at an unexpected place.
Next time, Date with a Star.
NARRATOR: Song of Palpitations, echo throughout the Galaxy.

btw, these subtitles were done by the subtitling group Lunar. They did a great job translating this. But I had to do an hour worth of editing to get it from the raw subtitle encoded formating to something readable. There's alot of mistakes I'm sure. But good enough I think for people to be able to understand the plot...

This is for the final episode next week. It's too bad they ended it here. It's a slow episode. Very low on action. Mostly some character developement.

It's a shame, because the action heats up at the end of episode 6 when a nearby fleet is being attacked. And they scramble to save them.
    :D

Anyways, here's the subtitles for the next one:

    Code:
    Macross Frontier ep 05

    NARRATOR: Macross Frontier.
Centered around the main island, Island-1,
and consisting of residential vessels, agricultural and resort vessels, and industrial vessels, et cetera,
it is a fifth generation large-scale emigration convoy.
               Utilizing bio-plants, the atmosphere,
the water, all matter circulates aboard the ships,
and every last shred of organic matter is used without waste.
It was designed as a closed system to make long-distance cruising possible with a minimum of supplies.
               In other words,
               it is a little Earth.
OZMA: What's the meaning of this?
Without so much as a word to me...
               Look!
Because of that, you got suspended!
You know what I went through to get you into that prissy girls' school!?
RANKA: I didn't ask you to!
I want to be a singer!
    OZMA: Cut the sleeptalking!
There's no way a coward like you could be a singer!
    RANKA: Bro, you're...
               A jerk!
               Jerk!
               Jerk!
    OZMA: Hold on!
    RANKA: Jerk!
               Jerk!
               Jerk!
    OZMA: Ranka!
    RANKA: Jerk!

               {opening credits}

ALTO: Is it okay for you to just come out in public?
               You're a celebrity, aren't ya?
SHERYL: Oh, so you don't want to be with me?
    ALTO: Yeah, it's a hassle.
SHERYL: But I have to return to Galaxy next week,
               so today's my only chance.
I want to find it no matter what.
               It's precious to me...
               ...that earring.
GIRL A: You only need hoverblades for spaceflight class, anyway.
But I'm so happy. I almost never get to come in here.
               Wow, so this is where Mikhail-kun changes.{wah, koko de...kigaetari shiteru no ne}
GIRL B: You're making me nauseous.
And Mikhail-kun's girlfriends are always drop-dead gorgeous older women.
               You don't stand a chance.{muri da tte}
GIRL A: Ah, this is Alto-kun's locker!
GIRL B: What the heck, Satomi?
               You like the Princess?
GIRL A: Well, to tell the truth...
GIRL B: That's even more impossible.
I heard a freshman confessed to him recently but didn't get a hint of reaction.
TEACHER: How much time you gonna waste in there?!
    BOTH GIRLS: Coming!
RANKA: I wonder if class already started for Alto-kun...
               Alto-kun?
    OZMA: Ranka!
               Where are you?!
               You're already suspended-
SHERYL: Don't put your phone there, would you? Pervert!
    ALTO: You're blaming me ?
SHERYL: Still, this "other place" you're thinking of better be real.
ALTO: What would I get out of lying to you?
SHERYL: You'd get to stay with me longer.
ALTO: You think everything's about you.
    LUCA: Alto-senpai?
    OZMA: Ranka?!
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Lieutenant Commander Ozma Lee.
I've come to get you on behalf of the Frontier Government Provisional Security Committee.
VP LEON M.: As I said, my people will bring in everyone who has knowledge of the Vajra.
I will send you documents about the members later.
Please allow me to handle this case,
               Mr. Birla.
    OZMA: You hear me, Mikhail?
This is an order from your commander.
               Find Ranka no matter what.
OZMA'S PHONE: Your message is being delivered.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: Is something going on with Ranka-san?
    OZMA: Sort of, yeah.
LT. CATHERINE GLASS: You never change.
If you'd been that concerned about me, too...
    OZMA: That's over now.
    LT. CATHERINE GLASS: You're right.
               It's ancient history.
    ALTO: No good.
I guess the guy's off today.
SHERYL: That's what I get for letting you handle it.
               Give me that.
Let me talk to that lost-and-found or outward-bound or whatever guy.
    ALTO: Quit it!
He's working tomorrow, so I'll check it out then.
    SHERYL: Fine.
Then I'll hold on to this as collateral.
    ALTO: Hey-
               Give it back!
SHERYL: Then try and take it.
    ALTO: That's cheating!
SHERYL: I knew you wouldn't reach for it.
I don't mind giving it back,
               but only on one condition.
    LUCA: I thought so.
So Mikhail-senpai got a call, too.
    NANA: Ranka-san... suspended...
If I hadn't urged her to enter...
               Let's all look for her!
LUCA: Y-Yes, let's look for her!
MIKHAIL: Sorry, but I'm gonna pass.
    NANA: Aren't you worried?
MIKHAIL: You're such a kind person, Nanase.
I've got something to take care of.
If you need bodies, just ask Princess Hookey.
    LUCA: Huh?
               Alto-senpai?
    ALTO: No, not Ranka!
    LUCA: Then who was that?
    ALTO: Wh-What does it matter?
LUCA: Uh, Ranka-san got suspended from school.
    ALTO: Huh?!
               Suspended?!
Geez, what the heck's she doing...
               Okay, if I find her-
               What the hell?!
SHERYL: Making excuses to your girlfriend?
    ALTO: Huh?
    SHERYL: Ranka-chan.
You two are dating, aren't you?
    ALTO: Dati....
               No!
    SHERYL: Ohh, you're not.
    ALTO: Yeah, most definitely not!
SHERYL: But you do have a girlfriend, right?
    ALTO: I don't!
    SHERYL: Then let's hurry.
    RANKA: Alto-kun, help me.
Everyone found out about Miss Macross and I got suspended.
And my brother said no way 'cause he's totally a super diamond-class hard-headed...
But I don't want to give up.
Please, help me figure this out.
               I'll wait for your call.
    ALTO: Ranka...
PHONE: The terminal you are calling is currently powered off or...
SHERYL: I'm leaving without you, Alto!
MIKHAIL: There's no way I'm getting involved in that brother-sister fight...
    MIKHAIL: Ranka-chan?
    RANKA: Mikhail-kun!
SHERYL: What are you looking at?
    ALTO: Nothing
    SHERYL: Geez.
ALTO: By the way, how do you know when the earring got lost?
    SHERYL: Grace.
My manager had recorded it in her visual data.
    ALTO: Visual?
    SHERYL: Her implant.
    ALTO: Oh that.
Where they jam a machine in your brain...
               But it's illegal, right?{demo ihou darou}
    SHERYL: Oh really?
               It's normal on Galaxy.
ALTO: Now that you mention it, they do
plastic surgery and cyborgs over there...
               Wait, are you...
    SHERYL: Not me.
I'm totally natural, like the day I was born.
That's one of my selling points, after all.
               Wow.
               What's that...
    RANKA: No means no!
No way I'm going home until my brother accepts this!
    MIKHAIL: But the Comman-
               Your brother is terribly worri-
    RANKA: Geez!
    MIKHAIL: Where are you going?
RANKA: What does it matter where?!
MIKHAIL: This is why I hate kids...
But now that I've found her, I guess I can't leave her...
               Wait!
               Ranka-chan!
    SHERYL: Wow...
               There's a sea...
               ...and forests...
The city's clean, and there aren't any slums.
               Frontier's a pretty nice place.
ALTO: It's just an ordinary, suffocating dome-type city ship.
               It's not even unique.
SHERYL: But I was surprised when I came here.
It's full of so many different smells.
Galaxy's an hermetically sealed chemical plant.
When I've been to bio-plant ships on tour, I could never have a shred of off-time.
ALTO: You sure you want to waste such a rare holiday like this?
SHERYL: You know, you really annoy me,
but there is one thing I like about you.
You don't treat me like "Sheryl".
               Come on, let's go!

    SHERYL: Well then...
               Okay, next is...
    ALTO: Sheryl!
    SHERYL: Alto...
ALTO: There's a place I'd like to take you.

VP LEON M.: An alien lifeform, existence of which was first verified nineteen years ago.
Well, I suppose no explanation is necessary for you,
the survivors of the 117th survey convoy.
First, please take a look at this.
First, please take a look at this.
    GIANT FARMER: Sorry about that.
SHERYL: Zentraedi people really are big , aren't they...
ALTO: Is this your first time?
    SHERYL: Yes.
There isn't a single one on Galaxy,
and I've only met microns on other ships.
               Hey, Alto...
               What's that?
    ALTO: That's...
    MIKHAIL: Wait up!
               Hey, come on, Ranka-chan.
               Where are we going?
               Fine, you win.
Let's call a truce for now.
I'll treat you to soft-serve as an apology.
    SHERYL: Wow!
               They're huge!
               What's this?! What's this?! What's this?!
               This is so much fun!
               It's a fairytale land...
               Almost like...
               I've got it!
    KLAN: You...
               What are you doing, scoundrel?
    ALTO: Lieutenant Klan?!
    SHERYL: Don't distract me!
I just thought of a good phrase!
    RANKA: Wow!
MIKHAIL: This place is really delicious.
By the way, why were you at Mihoshi?
    RANKA: To ask Alto-kun's advice.
    MIKHAIL: What?
               Him of all people?
    RANKA: Because.
Alto-kun really listens to what I have to say.
Not like you or my brother.
    MIKHAIL: Harsh...
But let's go home after eating this.
               The Commander really is worried.
    RANKA: No.
He still treats me like a child,
and he pilots a fighter behind my back.
So I'm gonna do what I want, too!
MIKHAIL: How about you stop being so spoiled, Ranka-chan?
OZMA: I never would've imagined the carcass
we downed was hidden here, being dissected.
    VP LEON M.: Carcass?
The appropriateness of calling it that is probably an issue that requires debate.
               The exterior is the same energy conversion armor as a Valkyrie.{gaikaku wa...tenkan soukou}
It is capable of folding unassisted...
...and gradually manufactures objects within itself for use as projectiles.
               Furthermore, we were shocked to find...{sara ni...beki koto ni}
...it has far too little of what we would call a brain to control all that.
In fact, you could say it almost doesn't exist.
    OZMA: What?!
VP LEON M.: In other words,
it is either such a lower lifeform that it has no need to think on its own,
or, we presume, it may be under the control of some other entity.
    SPECTATOR: A biological weapon?
VP LEON M.: That would be a valid conclusion.
MIKHAIL: You're one to talk, since you don't even try to understand why the Commander is fighting.
               And you can't convince him, so you lean on Alto?{sore ni taichou...tayoru}
You must be joking if you want to become a singer with that kind of resolve.
               In the first place, Ranka-chan,
can you even sing in front of people?
    RANKA: I can!
Even in Miss Macross, I went in front of everyone and-
    MIKHAIL: Then you did.
But for instance, could you sing right here, right now?
Here, where no one's trying to see, no one's come to see you?
               Earlier,
there was a man singing at the entrance.
You just swept right past him,
but think of the resolve it takes to keep singing at times like that...
               Do you have it?
    KLAN: Weird chick.
    ALTO: It really amazes me...
               Why are people so...
               I mean,
why do people sing or try to fly...
...and in the end, even try to come out into space?
    KLAN: What, are you stupid?
               That's easy...
SHERYL: It's obviously because they can't stand not to.
    KLAN: Damn right.
    ALTO: Oh yeah.
Can't stand... not to fly, huh?
    MIKHAIL: Can you sing?
Here, where no one's trying to see you?
    ALTO: This voice...
    SHERYL: Eh?
    ALTO: Ranka?!
    SHERYL: So she blossomed already.
               Didn't you hear the saying?
"Girls will blossom all on their own."
               All on their own...
    TALENT AGENT: Deculture!
    MIKHAIL: I give up.
ALTO: Can't stand not to sing... eh?
VP LEON M.: As I've just shown you, the Vajra are far too alien and dangerous.
               Therefore...
    OZMA: Cathy!
               Hey!
    VP LEON M.: Why...
    MIKHAIL: That was amazing.
To be honest, I was surprised.
    RANKA: It's thanks to Alto-kun.
    MIKHAIL: Speak of the devil...
    RANKA: Huh?
               Sheryl...-san?
    SHERYL: Thanks.
               I had fun.
ALTO: I didn't expect to be thanked.
    SHERYL: Oh be quiet.
I almost never do, so you'd better appreciate it.
Well then, it looks like Ranka-chan will make do somehow.
Now I can go back to Galaxy without regrets.
ALTO: Now that you mention it, next week...
    SHERYL: Yes.
I'll send you a ticket for my goodbye concert.
ALTO: No choice then; I'll be sure to find the earring and bring it to you.
    SHERYL: I'll be waiting, Alto.
    RANKA: No way...
    AGENT: Miss!
PILOT: Th-This is... Lieutenant Willan... of Macross Galaxy...
The Galaxy Convoy was... attacked by a large swarm of Vajra.
               Request immediate assistance!

    {ending credits}

NARRATOR: The Galaxy Convoy suffered a sudden attack.
The news of it will put Alto and the others on a path of no return.
               Next time, Bye Bye Sheryl.
NARRATOR: Song of Farewell, echo throughout the Galaxy.

Thanks Firefly. I've actually went and picked up this series to watch. I've been trying to suppress my watching of anime of late due to not enough time to watch a lot of shows but well after watching the first 5 episodes of Frontier, it kinda grew to me. Maybe because the I like the voice actor of Alto(Yuichi Nakamura), or maybe it's because I like the opening and ending. I don't know but regardless I think I'll be watching the remaining 20 episodes. Probably pass on the movies, uncertain. Depends on how great the series gets to me.

Regardless, good move Playstation Home. You got me into something I would of normally passed on.

    You're welcome Teriyaki soba!

I think you will enjoy this. It's a very well done series. Lots of good story. But the movie happens to be edited better and the story is better focused. But then the length of the series lets them explore more, and we get more depth of character.

The one mental hurdle that people might have is that in Macross, ships do turn into a robotic shape. Which can be a hard pill for some to swallow. They don't act like Talking transformers, they are more like slow moving hulks, (though Macross Quarter moves fast for it's size). It's kind of a tradition in Macross. But hopefully that won't blind people to the really good story.

The situation gets worse and worse as the story progresses. And they pretty much are all alone, deep in space. And the Vajra are doing huge damage to the fleet. And that makes for good story.

    :)

      [video=youtube;SGH2SZJPRZc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGH2SZJPRZc[/video]

Here's the official announcement. It begins around 1:10 into the video.

The girls are the voices for Sheryl and Ranka. The girl on the left plays Sheryl. And the other is Ranka.

I'm not sure what they will do about any singing though. Megumi Nakajima does Ranka's voice and singing. But May'N is the singer that sings Sheryll's songs.

Hey guys! I'm happy to see people who like Macross Frontier here!

Some of you guys won't be able to get the special posters for renting MF in Japan. That's too bad, But I can give you some posters that will look good in your Home picture frames.

I added the text to make it look like when this image was in the show. Also added some hearts in the lower one.

The pictures are both square, but when they fill the frame they will look great. I made them square because Home is weird. If you make it square, it expands out better with less distortion, less artifacts in the pictureframe.

      :D
