Today, August 6th, Sparpweed and Codeglue have co-developed and released a new multi-player game on the Playstation Network : ibb & obb "There’s a gorgeous elegance to its simple art style, and a perfect economy to the way it uses space, both above and below ground. Here's a little background on Sparpweed: Sparpweed is a two man studio, Richard Boeser and Roland I Jzermans create games with a focus on original gameplay and atmosphere. Games they like to play themselves. Depending on a project's needs they team up with other developers, designers, artists etc Richard and Roland both studied industrial design at Delft Technical University in The Netherlands. They met, became friends and were pleasantly surprised to discover a mutual interest in game design. Later Roland graduated at Guerrilla Games and started working there as a concept designer. Again later, Richard's graduation project resulted in a prototype of the game 'ibb and obb'. In 2008 ibb and obb was part of IndieCade's selection at the E3 in Los Angeles after which Richard and Roland decided to officially team up and Sparpweed was born. ibb and obb started out as Richard Boeser's graduation project. It had its first public appearance as part of IndieCade's selection at the E3 2008 in Los Angeles. There it caught Sony's eye and plans were made to get ibb and obb to Playstation. Sparpweed decided to try and self publish the game on the Playstation Store and found the means to do so through the help of Gamefonds, Rotterdam Media Fonds and an investor. At the end of 2010 production officially started in collaboration with Codeglue. Codeglue did all programming, animations, and a couple of the 3D models, while Roland Jzermans did the rest. Like it's a co-op game, this was co-op development as well. ibb and obb is a game designed around cooperative play. Two players find themselves in a world split in two. In the bottom half gravity is reversed, enabling players to walk on both sides of the line seperating both halves. Portals allow the players to move from one side to the other. Puzzles and enemies are best dealt with through cooperation. The game is designed around 2 player cooperative play and is online multiplayer as well. It is available for the PS3 (€ 9.99 /$ 9.99) and the PC. For those of you in North and South America, ibb & obb is part of Sony US’ PLAY program, which will allow PS+ members a 20% discount and for all a discount when buying more than one of the four games. You can also download a demo version. ibb & obb has music by Kettel. Besides albums, EPs, singles, Kettel did remixes for Depeche Mode, Dash Berlin and many others; he produced TV commercials for Audi, Shiseido and Sharp; and he toured in Europe, Japan and the USA. His current project is the score for the Playstation and PC game Ibb and Obb.
